Mountains to Sea: A Systemic Approach
By linking watersheds, rivers, coasts, and oceans, the program ensures that actions taken upstream protect ecosystems downstream.
This “Mountains to Sea” approach addresses one of the greatest limits of conservation today: fragmented data that cannot inform global decision-making.
Our hubs generate comparable, high-quality data, feeding global open-data systems while strengthening local engagement and governance.
Local Schools for Global Impact
Schools (K–12), universities, UNESCO science clubs serve as local anchors of the program in colllaboration with local key stakeholders.
Each participating institution:
-
identifies a nearby natural or cultural site (forest, river, coast, wetland, heritage area);
-
becomes its guardian, through long-term observation, restoration, and care;
-
adapts learning rhythms to local ecological cycles, seasons, and community availability.
Students engage in hands-on actions such as:
-
biodiversity monitoring using eDNA,
-
habitat restoration,
-
creation of local sanctuaries,
-
and community-based conservation projects.
